Latvian 3×3 basketball players win silver at the European Championship

The Latvian quartet lost to Serbia in the title match with a score of 14:21.

Latvia was third in the tournament, and Serbia was first.

In the final, Lasmanis scored six points, Chavars five and Miezis added three. Dejan Majstorović scored ten points and made three long shots for Serbia.

Majstorovics was recognized as the most valuable player of the tournament, but Miezis and Dutch national team player Arvins Slagter were also included in the symbolic selection of the tournament.

Out of eight matches between the national 3×3 national teams, the Serbians won six and the Latvians won twice.

Before that, in the semi-finals, Miezis led Latvia to a 21:20 victory over Lithuania (2nd).

In the second semi-final, Serbia defeated the Dutch 3×3 basketball players (5th) with 21:10. Then, in the bronze game, the Dutch defeated the Lithuanians with a score of 21:10.

Before that, in the quarter-finals, the Latvians convincingly beat Israel (11th) with a score of 21:7, securing the victory more than three minutes before the end of the fighting time.

On Saturday, in the matches of group C, Latvian basketball players first defeated Montenegro (25th) with 21:17, and then beat Poland (8th) with 21:13, winning the first place in their group.

Last weekend, the Latvian 3×3 basketball team “Riga”, playing with all four Olympic champions for the first time this season, won the first “Masters” title in Montreal. In the summer, when Lasmanis played in the US professional streetball league “Big3” and Krūminņš was treating an injury, the team played in different formations.

Latvian 3×3 basketball players won gold awards at the European Championship in 2017, followed by silver a year later. Also in the 2019 World Cup, the Latvian team won silver, but in 2021 they managed to triumph in the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Last year, Serbian basketball players won the European Cup, beating the Lithuanian national team 20:14 in the final.

The Latvian women’s 3×3 basketball team did not qualify for the European Cup, losing to Estonia and Romania in the decisive matches.
