Monroy closed with a bogey on the final hole for 71 strokes, which left him with 206 in total, -7, and two ahead of Martín Contini who this Saturday made 70 and César Monasterio, 68. In fourth place is who Juan Benítez, from Rosario, was the leader after Friday. He paid dearly for a quadruple bogey on hole 5 and closed with 75 strokes, but keeps his chances, three behind the pointer.

“I was very calm, knowing the course so well helps me, although you still have to be very careful because the greens are very difficult and very fast. But I hit very well, very solid and I hit almost all the greens,” the 38-year-old Monroy said.

The leader started with a birdie on his first hole and then made all pars until the bogey came on 9. He had to wait until the end of the round to break par again, when he hit the par four of the penultimate hole, but returned it fast with a bogey on the final hole, after three putts.

“All of us from Tucuman want to win this championship, it is the most important for us and the fact that many of us are fighting is a motivation and also a reason to continue concentrating to maintain the advantage,” said the man who won this championship in 2018 and 2016.

Who stood out this Saturday was César Monasterio, who thanks to his -3 climbed to second place. “It is an enormous happiness to be fighting after three days, together with all these guys. It is a court that I play almost every day, so I know it a lot and that is an advantage, but all of us from Tucumán are in similar conditions”, said the 58-year-old player who has never won the North Open.

The other player who tied for second place is Martín Contini who was the leader after the first round. “Today I didn’t hit well and I was able to score as well and that’s the most important thing, this Sunday I’m playing in the last group and I’m close,” said the 27-year-old, who played on the Korn Ferry Tour this season.

Among the fans, the fight is also extremely attractive and the best after 54 holes is Miguel Sancholuz from Buenos Aires, who with 210 strokes, -3, has a stroke advantage over Augusto Bruchmann (h) from Tucuman, who was the comfortable leader but he closed out with a quadruple bogey on his final hole to lose the lead.

The last departures this Sunday will be the following:

  • 12:40. Andrés Gallegos, Augusto Bruchmann (h), Miguel Sancholuz.
  • 12:5 Cesar Rib, Miri Carranza and Juan Benitez.
  • 13:0 Martin Contini, Caesar Monastery and George Monroy.
