In Morlaix, all the art of concentration in the practice of kyudo – Morlaix

The Morlaisian kyudo association organized Saturday, September 10, at the gymnasium of the Castle, the passage of the 1st and second dan, for eight archers including five from the Morlaisian club. In groups of three, the archers entered the shooting range in turn, flanked by their asymmetrical bow, more than 2m long, before shooting their two arrows at a target positioned nearly 30m away.

A filmed graduation

All the very codified stages of this archery were filmed and then sent to Japan where the masters of the Kyudo Federation will decide on the validation of the grades. “Before the health crisis, they traveled once a year for a three-day session in a European city”, informs Jenny Keguiner, 5th dan, teacher and president of the Morlais association. The eight archers must send to the Japanese Federation, before September 23, an answer in English to a technical question and another, more personal, on their approach to this discipline.

The long way of the “Way of the arc”

Kyudo is, as Laurent Faucheux, kyudojin from Morlais, reminds us, a discipline before being a sport: “Reaching the target is not essential. What seduced me in the kyudo, it is this long interior journey to arrive at the most accurate gestures, the most fluid, without parasitic movement. Thanks to all this ceremonial and the control of breathing, we manage to free ourselves from our tensions, to find a form of harmony. There is no competition between us, but mutual aid, and good times of laughter too! “.
