Granville: the wave pool project is canceled

On November 20, 2019, the surf wave project in theold swimming pool Tournesol was confirmed by the municipal council of Granville (Manche), which had then voted the principle of a 30-year emphyteutic lease, for €1,000 per year. “A company made up of several investors, including two from Granville, will create a static wave in order to allow learning to surf in all seasons. We are in the project to make Granville Terre et Mer, the first nautical destination in France. In addition, surfing should make its appearance at the 2024 Olympic Games, ”announced Dominique Baudry, mayor, in January 2020.

Covid and the war in question

The site was to open in September 2020but the health crisis in Covid and the ukrainian war have just forced investors to cancel this project.

A meeting should take place this week with Gilles Menardmayor of Granville, to findother leisure destinations less greedy energies : arcade terminals, climbing walls, bar and restaurant, table football, trampolines, archery…

As a reminder, the Tournesol de Granville swimming pool was built in 1975 at the same time as that of Octeville, as part of the 1,000 swimming pools project, set up by the French government in 1969.
