GOLF: The women’s and men’s teams from Avoise took part in the French senior team championships

he men played on the golf courses of La Bresse and Chalon-sur-Saône while the women golfed at Mont de Marsan.

This week was intense for the Avoise golf course and its senior teams. The club had hired a women’s team at Mont de Marsan and a men’s team at La Bresse golf course for the French senior team championships. The women and men played in the 2nd division, a place they had managed to keep last year during the championships which took place at Sporting de Vichy and Val de Sorne.

This year, the men’s team, made up of Jacques Ruste, Bruno Zacchini, Philippe Michaud, Alain Desmurger, Fernando De Bastos and Patrice Renaud, fought back as best they could against stronger opponents, many of whom were new seniors, just 50 years old. At the end of the first two days the team obtains the last place and will not manage to win its match against Merignies. The team unfortunately goes down to the third division. There is therefore a lot of work between now and next year to come back even stronger and recover this lost place!

In women, the results are more positive! At the end of the first two days, they obtain the 6th place out of 24, which allows them to access the quarter-finals, and to keep the hope of obtaining a place in the 1st division. On the third day, they win against St Cyprien, which opens the door to the semi-finals. A victory that was decided on the last holes, even in the play-off. During the last day, with again close matches, the team wins against Valcros and thus obtains a good place in the 1st division next year. Congratulations to Marie-Ange Michaud, Martine Frèrejean, Marie-Hélène Desmurger and Motoko Favre!

At the same time, after keeping their place in the 3rd division at the beginning of September at the Thumeries golf course, the second senior team from Avoise was competing in Chalon-sur-Saône for a championship with the senior 2 teams from France. Unfortunately, the team could not win against other stronger clubs, and finished at the bottom of the ranking.

The Avoise golf course remains proud of its players and more particularly of its players for their results. See you next year to see if men and women will manage to go up in division or at least maintain themselves.
