SANTO DOMINGO. Ana Rosa, José Nova, Moira Morillo, Medickson del Orbe and Robert Florentino won gold medals in their respective categories at the Senior Pan American Judo Open that concluded this Sunday at the Parque del Este Handball Pavilion and distributed points for the Games Pan American Games Chile 2023 and the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Rosa, in the minus 57 kilos category, defeated Renata Ortiz, from Mexico, by ippon. In the semifinal, the champion of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games category, she also won by ippon against Sabiana Anestor, from Haiti, who won the bronze.

Del Orbe, in less than 81 kilos, won gold by defeating the American Kell Berliner by ippon. Samuel Ayala, from Mexico, and Tomás Morales, from Argentina, shared the bronze.

Florentino, in less than 90 kilos, won the gold with ippon to Alexandre Arencibia, from Canada. Carlos Páez, from Venezuela, and Ángel García, from Mexico, took the bronze.

Morillo was crowned champion in more than 78 kilos by giving ippon to the American Mackenzie Williams. The bronze went to the Venezuelan Amarantha Urdaneta and Brigitte Carabali, from Colombia.

In more than 100 kilos, Nova beat the Chilean Francisco Solís by ippon. The bronze was shared by Omar Cruz León, from Cuba, and the Mexican Segio del Sol.

In another result, the Colombian Francisco Balanta reigned in less than 100 kilos by beating his compatriot Alejandro Escobar. The bronze went to the Chilean Thomas Briceño and the Dominican Ariel Lorenzo Piña.

Also from Quisqueyano, Antonio Tornal, won the silver medal when he fell by ippon in the final minus 73 kilos against the Mexican Gilberto Cardoso.

The Cade-Junior Pan American Cup and the Senior Pan American Open, which awarded points for qualifying for the Chile 2023 Pan American Games and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, were held with the support of the International Judo Federation (IJF) and the Confederation Pan American Judo (CPJ) in coordination with the Dominican Judo Federation (Fedojudo).
