Davis Cup: David Goffin, the man who almost never loses in the national team’s red jersey

The group stage of the 2022 edition of the Davis Cup is about to begin, all over Europe. Four cities each host four countries. The two best of each group will meet in November, in the final phase, in Malaga.

Belgium plays in Hamburg, against Australia, without Nick KyrgiosGermany, without Alexander Zverevand France, without Gael Monfils. Our country will be able to count on its leader, David Goffin. Last March, playing, and winning, for his country, had completely revived his season.

This time again, the Davis Cup could be a key moment for him. He remains on five losses in the first round, during the North American tour on cement. He quickly turned the page, he found his rhythm in training. And he is preparing to try to lead Belgium to qualification.

David Goffin has been wearing the Belgian team’s red jersey for ten years now. And his statistics are very impressive. He played 30 singles matches and won 26 of them.

Interview with a player on whom Belgium knows they can count…

David, we know the importance that the Davis Cup can have for you in a season, and in a career. What do you expect from this meeting?

I am very happy that we are in the group stage. It’s amazing to participate in a competition like this. I always say it, it’s not the Davis Cup before, it’s another one, but I still love it. And it is important that Belgium is among the best nations in such an event. I think we are in our place. And despite the level of other countries, we will try to go a little further.
