Steeper than expected: decisive World Cup climb has peak of 24 (!) percent | World Cycling Championships

“Similar to the Berendries,” said course designer Scott Sunderland of the Mount Pleasant.

The slope is 1 kilometer long and rises on average 7.7 percent. The men have to digest the calf biter 12 times in the road race, the women 6 times.

The road book states that the Mount Pleasant rises a maximum of 14 percent. But American junior Artem Shmidt saw percentages of up to 24.2 percent appear on his Garmin during his exploration (watch the video below).

The first 150 meters of Mount Pleasant rise very slowly and remain below 10 percent. But then there are some steep nods above 20 percent.

The riders continue to climb into double digits for several hundred meters, after which the slope flattens out. Towards the end, the asphalt rises again to 18 percent.
