Coulthard about Verstappen’s talent: ‘He is a legend’

Max Verstappen has been seventeen years old since his entry into Formula 1. age has already crept into many record lists. For example, he recently entered the top ten of most rounds in the lead of races, with a number of 1636. Former driver David Coulthard also sees that Verstappen is a great talent.

“If you look at last year and the way he took the title, he is a phenomenon, an exceptional driver, a legend,” said the Scot at the Dutch branch of Viaplay. Coulthard compares the reigning world champion to big names in Formula 1. “From the moment he entered the sport, he came in like a Senna, a Schumacher or a Hamilton. He was already ready to win.’

According to the former driver, it was because Verstappen came in very mature. “He didn’t come as a rookie to learn everything,” Coulthard said. “I know I attribute a lot to him because he’s only 24, but he’s an exceptional driver,” he continues.

‘He is already one of the greatest’

Coulthard admits he did not act like Verstappen. “I never was, but I appreciate hard work and success,” he explains. “Max is someone who has a whole country on his feet, because no matter how many titles he wins, he is already one of the greatest,” continues the Scot. He expects that Verstappen can win more championships. “I think he can beat that record.”

For this season, according to Coulthard, things are looking good for the 24-year-old driver. “Red Bull’s pace is very good and Mattia Binotto is concerned about Ferrari’s lack of speed, so Max can take 13 wins,” he said. According to the former driver, he is already very far on his way to a new title. “He doesn’t even need it for the championship, but they’re taking it race by race and they want those wins!”
