CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. Liverpool puts Ajax aside in extremis, Atlético chokes on Leverkusen

Liverpool were looking forward to the announced minute of silence in memory of Queen Elizabeth’s death. Beforehand, there was a fear of whistling during that minute by Liverpool fans, who have already shown in the past that they are not exactly two hands on one stomach with the British Royal Family. There could be several reasons for that. For example, in the past ‘We’re not British, we’re Scouse’ could regularly be read at Anfield. An unfounded fear, it turned out. Only a few could not contain themselves and whistled during the national anthem.

The game itself got off to a great start for the home side. A far kick from Alisson was headed well to Diogo Jota, who put Salah alone in front of Pasveer. A breeze for the Egyptian, who easily kicked in the 1-0. The defense of the team from Amsterdam in particular did not look good. However, Liverpool could not enjoy the lead for long. Berghuis kept a good overview at the back line and served Mohammed Kudus. The Ghanaian did not hesitate and shot goalkeeper Alisson: 1-1.

Liverpool almost went into halftime with a lead. Pasveer had a great reflex to keep Virgil van Dijk’s header out of his goal. Moments later, the same Pasveer stopped Salah from his second goal twice.

After the break, both teams seemed to settle for a draw. Joel Matip, however, thought otherwise. The defender put his head well against a corner just before time and still brought the Reds into ecstasy. Liverpool are right back after the heavy defeat against Napoli last week.

Dol slot puts Sporting in the lead of Group D

With Sporting and Tottenham, we immediately got two teams in Group D that won their game on the opening day without any problems. Although that was not without the necessary effort. Sporting played weak against Frankfurt, but scored three times. Tottenham only really reached cruising speed when visiting Marseille after Mbemba’s red card.

Both teams started the match expectantly. After seven minutes there was the first danger. Pedro Goncalves got the ball on the edge of the box, but his shot wasn’t hard enough to get Lloris into trouble.

Tottenham played better and better in the match and Richarlison took the lead. After an earlier head chance was too small, Richarlison was allowed to cheer moments later. However, the Brazilian was offside when he only wanted to go for goal, the VAR rejected the goal.

Tottenham also appeared to be pressing in the second half. Harry Kane first kicked Adan and moments later came a toe short to make the 0-1 against the ropes. On the other side, we had to watch out for the Portuguese counterattack. The match seemed to be heading for a spectacle score until substitute Paulinho managed to hit a corner in injury time. Tottenham was upset and deep into injury time it actually became 2-0. Arthur Gomes went for a walk in the English defense and kicked the ball past Lloris. Sporting is in the lead in the group after two match days with a goal difference of +5.

Frankfurt grabs the three points on a visit to Marseille

Still in Group D, Marseille received Europa League winner Frankfurt. After there was an incident between Nice and Cologne last week in the Conference League, another match was marred by some hotheads in the stadium. Flares were thrown at each other, something that does not belong in a stadium.

On the field, it was Marseille who got off to the best start. The French pushed Frankfurt back, but fell behind somewhat against the flow of the game after a goal from Jesper Lindstrøm. The Dane appeared face to face with goalkeeper Lopez after an unfortunate tap by Marseille player Veretout. Lindstrøm didn’t give the goalkeeper a chance: 0-1, immediately also the final score.

Atlético choke on Leverkusen

Atlético managed to keep the three points at home against Porto last week and wanted to take its second win against Leverkusen. The Spaniards, with Axel Witsel in the starting line-up and Yannick Carrasco on the bench, also started well and should have been awarded a penalty after a handball from a German defender. The referee, however, saw no problem and allowed play to continue.

Atlético did not let it get to his heart and continued to opt for the attack. Yet it was Leverkusen who came close to scoring. Goalkeeper Grbic had to distinguish himself on a shot by Diaby to draw a tie towards the dressing rooms and Schick also had bad luck in the finish. The bar saved the Spaniards.

After the break it was Leverkusen who controlled the game. Atlético gave up, but seemed to hold out against the Germans. Until Robert Andrich gave the home team the lead.

Leverkusen smelled blood and went full for the second goal. Grbic first kept Atlético in the game, but Diaby decided the game moments later and put the 2-0 final figures on the board.

Inter without problems past Plzen, Edin Dzeko is the star

Inter, which still had to do without the injured Romelu Lukaku, was looking for a first three-pointer after the lost game against Bayern. Viktoria Plzen had to become the child of the bill for this.

The Italians started the match very well and after twenty minutes it was already a hit. Joaquin Correa offered Dzeko the opening goal after twenty minutes. The Bosnian replacement for Lukaku did not hesitate and put Inter ahead. After that it was a one-way street. Inter dominated, but failed to score before the break.

We also got to see the same game after the break. Inter monopolized the ball and kept tapping patiently. Pavel Bucha made it even more difficult for the Czechs on the hour by taking stupid red. Denzel Dumfries doubled the score against ten men twenty minutes before the end. Dzeko took on the role of declarant this time.
