Lieshout – After an exciting tournament, Wouter van Vijfeijken has been crowned ‘Club Champion Single 2024’ among the seniors. During the tournament it became clear that he was the very best this year. Last year’s champion, Ruud van Vijfeijken, was unable to compete this year due to minor aches and pains and ultimately had to put up with Laurence Roijackers, who took second place with his typical game.
This year too, the ‘Single Club Championships’ for seniors were held on the association’s evenings. This makes it easier for participants to participate and allows more matches to be played. This year, the association has once again set up the championships in an A-pool for the competitive players and a B-pool for the more recreational players. Both groups competed against each other for prizes during two evenings.
A-hen
The A-pool was a full competition: all players played against each other, both in an ‘away and a home match’. Because of this design, one loss was not immediately fatal. After the first evening of play, Wouter van Vijfeijken was already at the top, but brother Ruud van Vijfeijken followed closely behind him. Laurence Roijackers also did well, as did Jeroen van der Heiden.
Second evening of play is decisive
On the second evening of play, in addition to Wouter van Vijfeijken, Laurence Roijackers was also doing well. He even managed to take a set from Wouter van Vijfeijken and also sent Ruud van Vijfeijken into the woods with a 15-21, 18-21 victory. Thanks to these good results, Laurence was even able to take second place from Ruud van Vijfeijken. Guido van de Vijver also performed well. He took a draw against Laurence Roijackers and managed to beat Jeroen van der Heiden. Because Jeroen van der Heiden then managed to win again against Laurence Roijackers, the entire field ended up quite close together. The final score was: 1. Wouter van Vijfeijken, 2. Laurence Roijackers, 3. Ruud van Vijfeijken, 4. Guido van de Vijver and 5. Jeroen van der Heiden.
