The reunion on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the TV judo department in the “Schloßwirt” inn turned into a long night for the participants. Many judokas are now scattered to the four winds throughout Germany. The department itself is still young compared to the gymnastics club, which was founded in 1864, said TV chairman Klaus Nigg. Certainly there were already discussions in the club back then, since the club consisted mainly of gymnasts and judo was a martial art. But you were of the opinion that you could only continue to grow if you opened yourself up to other sports.

Nigg is certain that the founding of the judo section made a significant contribution to the success story of the gymnastics club. “While the department was a small element in the club back then, over the past 50 years it has developed into a mainstay in the TV Vohenstrauß building,” says Nigg. Historically, the chairman’s gaze went back to all previous trainers. In particular, it is thanks to Hans Schneider, who took over the position of deputy head of department and trainer in 1985, that the judo department was able to celebrate this anniversary. After all, his commitment kept the judo department alive in times that weren’t so rosy. Unfortunately, a tragic accident in October 2014 suddenly ended this assignment as a coach.

With competent specialist knowledge, sporting ability, willingness to perform and determination, the trainers have convinced the athletes and passed this on to them. “During the training sessions, you encourage and challenge, prepare your protégés for Upper Palatinate, North Bavarian, Bavarian and South German championships as well as for belt tests,” praised the chairman, who presented the department with a gift of money. District chairman Jörg Pfeil from Deuerling near Laaber and city councilor Martha Bauer also congratulated the company on the milestone anniversary and wished them continued success for the future.
