The 1184 spectators in the Sparkassen-Arena loudly made sure that all the violet players couldn’t stop grinning as soon as they walked in. In any case, almost all of them: Captain Harper Kamp was absent due to a flu infection.
Moore and Hammonds with joy of playing
The first exclamation mark was then immediately set by the new Big Men of the BG: Taze Moore with the block and Rayshaun Hammonds with the three-pointer. Coach Roel Moors had complained before the game that his team had to play even faster and more aggressively – that worked well in the opening minutes on offense. However, not all rotations are internalized, so that the ball went into the void several times. But when the passes came through, things got spectacular: Moore by dunking, tip-in after the throw-in and lay-up brought Göttingen mt 14:8 ahead.

Defensively, however, the positional play was lacking, so that Frankfurt stayed tuned to BBL veteran Quantez Robertson. But there was still a lot of sand in the works for the guests – they threw away the balls in rows – nine turnovers per team were recorded after ten minutes, the BG was ahead by 21:20.
Game from the textbook
At the beginning of the second quarter, the BG then produced a move that Coach Moors would have liked: After a defensive rebound, Göttingen bridged the field in a few seconds with three precise, sharp passes, in the end Geno Crandall was completely free and hit the three. The BG defense now really picked up and caused Frankfurt to lose one ball after the other (eight in this quarter) – and on offense Moore and Mark Smith, who was unlucky to throw, took the twelve-point lead with a three-pointer (34:22). the BG. At the break it was 44:33.
At the beginning of the second half, the BG had left their defense in the dressing room – the Frankfurters are otherwise only free to throw in training. Moors just shook his head, looking concerned, but didn’t intervene for the time being. Because the guests also only marginally valued the defense in these minutes. When Robertson shortened for Frankfurt with a three, the BG coach took the time-out. After this, the American Moore was unstoppable. He used a pass across the field against two defenders, and there was great applause when he was substituted. With a 71:59 lead we went into the final section.

Defensive ups and downs
On the other hand, the defense acted more snappy again in the fourth quarter, the BG was closer to their opponents – except for a few dropouts, which kept Moors shaking his head. The guests now scored better from the outside (however, the violets hardly defended the perimeter either), but Javon Bess carried the Göttingen almost alone in this phase. Rebound here, steal there, three-pointers, layups—Bess did it all. But Taze Moore also had something else in his quiver: he unpacked the tomahawk dunk in the fast break – and blocked himself, so instead of collective ecstasy there was only a disappointed murmur in the audience. But that didn’t change the clear success against the guests from Frankfurt, who were decimated by injuries, who hit six three-point shots in the last ten minutes.
