ATP, Laver Cup > Murray honest on Federer’s retirement: “When I signed for the 2022 Laver Cup, I never thought I would be there for the end of Roger’s career, but I think it is an incredible opportunity to share moments with him, Nadal and Djokovic”

After having already paid tribute to Roger Federer, Andy Murray admitted that he did not know that the Swiss would play in London during the fifth edition of the Laver Cup (September 23 to 25) the ultimate “tournament” of his career. The Briton now hopes to play a double with the man with 20 Grand Slam titles, but the latter still has to be able to play. For the moment, the uncertainty persists as confirmed by his physical trainer.

“I didn’t think he was going to quit at this point, I think we were all hoping he could have a miraculous resurgence next year. When I signed for the 2022 Laver Cup I never thought I would be there for the end of Roger’s career, but I think it’s an amazing opportunity to share moments with the Big 3. This is not something that usually happened and it will be very special. I hope Roger can participate in the competition. I think the atmosphere will be amazing and I would love to share the court with him in doubles. It would be the perfect end to a very special story. I will do my best to enjoy the experience”said the Briton in a press conference after the elimination of Great Britain in the Davis Cup.
