Aíto García Reneses, the Girona Basketball coach, this morning reviewed the team’s situation 24 hours before the much-anticipated Endesa League opener against Real Madrid (tomorrow, 9 p.m.). The coach has confirmed the absence of Jaume Sorolla, affected by plantar fasciitis, he has detailed that Garino “is getting better every day, but he has been inactive for a long time” and has assured that to beat the current champions “we will have to give maximum effort during the 40 minutes”. The coach, although the battle is uneven due to the potential of the whites, believes that they can have options: “the favorites don’t always win, and this can also happen to us sometimes, who think we are favorites, we lose”.

“We trained with a lot of interest. We have to take into account that our journey must be long. We have players who have never played in the ACB, and others who have only just arrived in the team” , analyzed Aíto, who sent this message to the fans who will fill Fontajau to overflowing tomorrow: “14 years later, Girona has ACB basketball again and it’s not the same as if we were Barça or Madrid. I’m sure the public will be on our side. I would tell them to try to enjoy the team as much as possible, but also to know that sometimes the effort is not rewarded in the result.” In this sense, he added that “we don’t always have to wait to see if we win or lose, what we have to do is to work as well as we can at every moment”. Aíto also said that it will be necessary to have “mental strength” and not to think about the classification at the start of the season: Madrid comes tomorrow and then a double trip to Tenerife and Santiago. “I wouldn’t like to lose all three games,” he said.

On the other hand, Marc Gasol already appears on the ACB roster, once his file has been processed. Básquet Girona has also decided to activate the Serbian pivot Aleksandar Bursać, who has been in Girona for weeks to strengthen pre-season training and friendlies. Bursac (2.05 m) is 27 years old and has played the last two seasons in Zadar, Croatia.
