A star Russian biathlete has mysteriously disappeared. He won’t be back, the coach suspects

Malyško last trained with the national team in the 2021/22 season, then the ground collapsed after him. “We have no information about him at all. That’s why I think he ended his career. But I don’t know anything about his plans,” Alexander Kasperovič admitted to the Russian server MatchTV.

The now 35-year-old Malyško celebrated winning the gold medal in the relay at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. But he subsequently lost this medal as a result of the revelation of a large-scale doping scandal. Relay member Yevgenij Usthugov was convicted of doping.

Back in 2019, Malyško won bronze at the World Championships in Östersund.

Kasperovič does not believe that the native of Sosnový Bor will ever return to the national team.

“We hope he will continue his career. But he doesn’t participate in anything anymore. Neither training nor racing. So we have to be realistic. Everything indicates that he has finished his sports career,” added the coach.

The presence in the Russian biathlon national team is not very attractive at the moment anyway, because the international biathlon national team excluded her for the upcoming season due to the invasion of Ukraine.
