Martin Trainer decided to play for France! Born in Marseille to an American father and a French mother 31 years ago, he applied on July 28 to theIGF (International Golf Federation) to switch from the American flag to the tricolor flag. Based in California where he studied, the Palo Alto resident now plays for France, with a pretty blue-white-red flag next to his name on the leaderboard…
A winner on the PGA Tour
Winner for the United States of Puerto Rico Open 2019the so-called “alternate” test of the PGA Tour and therefore offering fewer advantages than a “classic” victory, Trainer has struggled to confirm since his first title, stopped in particular by the Covid-19 break. Forced to cling to new goals, he therefore chose to play for France by officially eyeing a place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
This newcomer could well redistribute the cards, but qualification is still a long way off and many French champions want to fight to snatch a place in the selection (Editor’s note, as of September 26, 2022, these are Victor Perez et Julian Brown who are qualified). As Paul Barjon (who has just shone at the French Open), Martin Trainer has just lost his card on the PGA Tour, which clearly complicates his task. But in the event of a return to the American first division, everything could go very quickly for the current 426th player in the world…
