20-month-old girl dies after being hit by hail

Madrid, Spain (Reuters) — A 20-month-old girl has died after being hit on the head during a violent hail storm that wreaked havoc in Catalonia, northeastern Spain, authorities said Wednesday.

The girl who was hit in the head by hail in La Bisbal d’Emporda died at the Trueta hospital in Girona, according to the authorities of that town.

The hail is the largest recorded in two decades in Catalonia, according to the Meteocat weather agency. Some areas of the region were still on alert for storms on Wednesday.
