The 1st Yeongjong Area Sports Club Hanmadang, where high school students in Yeongjong-do compete in various sports such as soccer and table tennis, will be held throughout Incheon from July to September. Among them, badminton was held at the Incheon Jungsan High School Auditorium on July 16th. 64 students from five schools, including Haneul High School, Yeongjong High School, Jungsan High School, Gonghang High School, and Yeongjong International Logistics High School, competed in the men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles events.

The men’s doubles championship, in which 16 teams participated, was won by Haneul High School (instructor Bae Jun-beom), first graders Park Jun-kyung and Son Min-seo. When asked how he felt about winning the championship, Son Min-seo said, “There were mistakes and shortcomings during the game, but (Park) Jun-kyung made up for that well.” Regarding the moment of the biggest crisis and how to overcome it, he once again showed his trust in the team members, saying, “When I was stiffened due to a mistake during the match against Gonghang High, I trusted my partner and calmly went through the game.” The two have been working as badminton players since elementary school and building trust.

Regarding the charm of badminton, Park Jun-kyung showed off his passion, saying, “The speed of the rally and the light sound of hitting the shuttlecock make my heart flutter.” Due to the nature of Haneul High School, which is a nationwide autonomous private high school, it is not easy to prepare for sports events, but the two used the rest days or lunch time to build up their stamina and to fill in the necessary parts for the after-school exercise session prepared by the advisor. When asked what he wanted to say to Haneul High School students, Park Jun-kyung concluded the interview by saying, “Let’s not only study but also enjoy various cultural activities such as physical education and become a versatile sky man.”

Of the 54 teams that participated in the game, only 3 teams won the championship, but regardless of victory or defeat, the students did their best and inspire other students to fight. Scholar Jeong Hyun-ki, who organized the event, said, “In the Yeongjong area, although schools are close and tied to each other, there are few opportunities for exchange between schools and students have relatively few opportunities to exercise, so we wanted to make this event a place of harmony and communication.”
