WRC Belgium Rally leader Neuville crashes in a cornfield and retires

Neuville’s accident made it possible for Estonian Ot Tanak, a teammate of the Belgian Hyundai driver, to become the leader in Belgium. The second place, 6.3 seconds behind, is occupied by Toyota driver Elfin Evans from Wales.

Neuville had won the Belgian Rally twice – in 2018 and 2020.

On Friday, WRC overall leader Kalle Rovanpera also had an accident.

In the overall standings of the World Championship, Rovanpera is the clear leader with 194 points. In second place, 94 points behind, is Tanaka’s crew. Neuville had another point less before the Belgian rally.

After the Belgian rally, the WRC calendar includes four more stages – in Greece, New Zealand, Spain and Japan.
