MEXICO CITY (AP) — Hugo Rodríguez, Eduardo Aguirre and Carlos Orrantia scored three goals in a 10-minute second-half stretch as Santos Laguna thrashed Cruz Azul 4-0 in the Apertura tournament on Saturday.
The Argentinian Javier Correa put the locals in front and, at the start of the second half, they increased Rodríguez at 47, the “Mudo” Aguirre at 51 and Orrantia at 56.
Santos now has 10 points with which he is placed in fourth position while waiting for the other results for the seventh date
Cruz Azul suffered its third defeat and remains with eight points, in tenth position.
The Warriors went ahead in a corner kick play in which Correa took advantage of a cross from Uruguayan Fernando Gorriarán to shake the nets.
At the start of the complement, Rodríguez beat his markers and hit a header from a corner kick to beat goalkeeper Sebastián Jurado.
Aguirre extended the lead shortly after receiving a cross from the left and converted with a shot through the center of the goal.
Orrantia put a beating to the game by receiving a cross from the left and connecting a shot that entered Jurado’s right post.
The Paraguayan Ángel Romero was able to discount at 86 with a penalty, but his shot went through the right side of goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo.
LIQUID “PONCHITO” AT LA FIERA
Midfielder Arturo González scored a hat-trick and Monterrey beat León 5-1 to become the provisional leader of the Apertura tournament.
“Ponchito” González scored his goals in the 34th, 37th and 71st minutes for the Rayados, who won for the fifth time in their last six games.
Argentine striker Germán Berterame added a brace with goals at four and 87 minutes for Monterrey, which now has 16 points and has displaced its staunch rival Tigres from first position, although the university students have their match pending on this seventh date.

Ecuadorian Byron Castillo discounted at 49 minutes for Fiera, who had just beaten America.
