US Open: as expected, Novak Djokovic is not allowed to play in New York

No detention in a center for undocumented refugees, no controversies in world vision by interposed screens, but the same sentence for Novak Djokovic. As in Australia, last January, the Serbian tennis player is not authorized to go to American soil because of his refusal to be vaccinated against Covid-19. He will therefore not be able to defend his chances at the US Open (August 28-September 11).

The long-awaited verdict fell this Thursday afternoon, a few hours before the drawing of lots. The former world number 1, titled in July at Wimbledon, will miss the last Grand Slam of the year, the second of the season.

The United States requires foreigners to present proof of vaccination to enter the country, a condition to which the athlete refuses to comply for ethical reasons without qualifying as an “antivax”.
