Trade: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson joins Eagles

The Eagles have a new starting safety. NFL Media announces that the Philadelphia franchise has acquired Chauncey Gardner-Johnson in a trade with the Saints. The compensation is not yet known.

The player selected in the fourth round in 2019 was trying to negotiate a contract extension with New Orleans. But the discussions failed, and the Louisiana leaders ended up resolving to exchange it. They will therefore rely on the depth of their defensive squad.

On the Philadelphia side, we continue to strengthen aerial coverage which now looks great with Darius Slay and James Bradberry already.

Gardner-Johnson’s arrival had the immediate effect of cutting Anthony Harris.

The player’s agent has already explained to our colleagues that Gardner-Johnson should occupy a full-time safety role, rather than occupying the slot as he sometimes did with the Saints.

Last season, the 24-year-old had 46 tackles, 2 sacks, 4 passes defended and 3 interceptions.
