Miguel Amaya would not go up to the Major Leagues this year

Panamanian catcher Miguel Amaya will have to arm himself with patience and wait for 2023 to achieve his great dream of reaching the Major Leagues, because Jed Hoyer, general manager of the Chicago Cubs, announced that it is unlikely that he will be promoted this year.

‘Miguel Amaya has been hitting very well in Tennessee, but he won’t be ready defensively to do that. So it’s unlikely we’ll do that since he can’t catch,’ he explained.

“The future is bright for those guys, but I think it’s unlikely to be in Chicago this year,” referring to Amaya and also outfielder Brennen Davis.

Amaya’s main goal, right now, is to get her elbow strength back to the point where she can play her position again.

The 23-year-old from Santeño is the organization’s #15 prospect and underwent Tommy John surgery last November, keeping him off the field.

He returned to the diamond just last July 1, in the Double A branch, with the Tennessee Smokies, with whom he is batting .257, in 21 games, with three home runs, 10 RBI, eight runs scored.
