“They were much better than us” admits Paulo Fonseca

Paulo Fonseca (Lille coach, beaten 7-1 by PSG): “Obviously it’s a very difficult moment to lose in such a way. The players were sad in the locker room, we absolutely have to react. The analysis of the match is easy: they were much better than us. The start of the match was difficult, we conceded a goal in the first seconds but we tried to play, and for me it was important to see them try. We had some good periods during the match but the difference is huge between the two teams. I’m not angry with my players because it’s my philosophy of play. We are in the process of building a team, a project and we must not forget that we had two good matches before. When I ask my players for courage, I must not show fear. Why should we change because we play PSG? We always tried to play, to press high. It’s our philosophy, our identity… We can do better defensively, that’s for sure, but the opposing quality is so incredible that we have to accept that.
