The young and the old! – Badminton Magazine

The “doormat” at the door to the terrace at the girlfriend’s house.

Holy bread?

Or also an understanding woman with a youngest son who now plays both football (with his biological father as coach) and badminton (in my club), and a badminton-crazy girlfriend.

Yesterday we were two men together for the first senior training after the summer holidays. He made his debut in training. For me it was probably the fortieth time.

Age doesn’t matter as long as the joy is the same……and it is!

The young man comes from a team sport, where everyone naturally takes a shower after the match, and where the individual player can “hide” a bit on the pitch and be “rescued” by his team, to a much more individual sport, where the spotlight and responsibility rests on one self, or at most two!

You can’t hide on a badminton court. If you make a mistake, or if you are not good enough, it will be exposed in front of everyone – and will probably hit something deeper in yourself. On the badminton court, you have to think and analyze and find the solutions and go through the crises and maintain your temper – ideally. But can also award yourself all the honors of victory!

His badminton has, I interpret, had a positive influence on the football game, where he now takes much more responsibility and has become one of the leading figures.

And he is also starting to seem more independent – and provocative on the badminton court when we play against each other. Definitely a sign of development. Also that with the provocative! He no longer allows himself to be kissed by the old man on the other side, but now looks into my eyes and gives again, also orally. It’s brilliant. What a personal development over the course of 3-4 years. Probably the best of all!

Young people can benefit from playing several sports and learning different things that can be used in other contexts – that’s grown-up talk! After all, he just needs to have fun and give it maximum gas.

The hall was hot last night. We guessed on the return journey at 27-28 degrees and high humidity.

More or less the same conditions, the WC players prepare during and on until the 21st-27th. August in the heat of Tokyo. In addition to a tremendous sensory bombardment of impressions and people in this 40 million megacity, in a country I often call “The Land of Reverses”…….Japanese people and their culture are just so different in so many areas that you are constantly challenged on your understanding, your habits .

Later today, the mentioned two men and two other young people drive into NETC and watch world-class badminton. Completely free.
