The united amateur team of Latvia ends the UEFA Regions Cup tournament with a loss in Salaspils

The united amateur team of Latvia, represented by five players of the “Ķekava” team, ended the European Football Federations Association (UEFA) Regions Cup tournament on Tuesday with a loss at the Salaspils stadium. In three games, Latvian footballers failed to score a single goal.

In the subgroup tournament of the Regions Cup, which is a European amateur team competition, the Latvian team drew 0:0 with the Moldovan team “Ialoveni”, then lost 0:5 to the players of “West Slovakia” from Slovakia, but on Tuesday in Salaspils they lost with the same result. Dolny Šlask” for the team from Poland, which in 2019 became the winners of the UEFA Regional Cup.

In the final table, with one point in three games and a goal ratio of 0:10, Latvia shared the third place with “Ialoveni”, which had exactly the same balance.

Usually in the UEFA Regional Cup, Latvia is represented by the champions of the Latvian third league, but since the tournament was not completed last year due to the pandemic, this year a team of seven Latvian clubs participated in it under the leadership of coach Yuri Popkov. Among the 18 football players were five representatives of “Ķekava” – goalkeeper Āriks Vītiņš, midfielders Jānis Rotbergs, Rūdolfs Zicāns and Toms Burtsevs, as well as striker Matīss Baško.
