The Riga Adult European Judo Cup 2022 was held

On August 6 and 7, for the first time in the history of Latvian judo, the Riga Adult European Cup 2022 (hereinafter – the Cup) was held. In total, athletes from 16 European countries competed in Kausa. The cup was held as part of the European Judo Tour.

On Saturday, August 6, the first day of the Cup was successfully held. In the women’s competition, the strongest judokas were determined in the following weight categories: – 48kg, – 52kg, – 57kg and – 63kg. On the other hand, in the men’s competition, the fights took place in the following weight categories: – 60kg, – 66kg and – 73kg.

Latvian national judoka Antonijs de Angelis (-66kg) had a particularly successful home competition, who played 5 fights, defeating an Israeli athlete in the first, showing superiority over a Lithuanian judoka in the second fight, in the quarter-finals A. De Angelis defeated another athlete of the Latvian national team Andrejas Skomorokhova, semi-final for our athlete brought victory over the Ukrainian rival, but in the final Antonys did not leave any chances to the Israeli competitor. The great fight allowed Antonio de Angelis to win the gold coin medal.

Andrei Skomorokhov (-66kg) was free in the first fight, but then continued the fight with a victory over the Israeli judoka. In the quarter-finals, Andrej lost to fellow national team member Antoni de Angelis, followed by the first consolation match, in which the athlete defeated the Israeli competitor. In the second consolation match, Andrei recognized the superiority of the Italian judoka. In general, Andrejs Skomorokhovs ranked in the high 7th place.

Roberts Jaworskis (-73kg) started the fight with a victory over an Estonian competitor, but the next fight brought a loss against an Israeli judoka. In the first consolation match, Roberts was superior to the Belgian athlete, but in the second consolation match he lost to the British judoka. R. Jaworskis ranked high in the 7th place overall.

Alice Bulyone (-57kg) started the fight with a loss to an Israeli athlete, followed by a loss to a competitor from Finland. In the third fight, Alice recognized the superiority of the Estonian judoka, but later conceded to the Ukrainian athlete.

Jēkabs Jēkabsons (-60kg) recognized the superiority of the Ukrainian judoka in the first fight, but lost to the Italian athlete in the satisfaction fight.

Alexander Skomorokhov (-66kg) recognized the superiority of the Ukrainian athlete. Alexander Chernyshov (-66kg) started the fight with a loss to the Israeli judoka, unfortunately, Alexander also lost to the Ukrainian athlete in the satisfaction fight. Roberts Purs (-66kg) lost to his Ukrainian rival, but in the satisfaction fight he recognized the Italian
the superiority of the athlete.

Andis Dolgilevičs (-73kg) lost to the Swedish competitor. Denis Kamenskis (-73kg) recognized the superiority of the Israeli judoka.

On Sunday, August 7, the men’s competition took place in the weight categories: -81kg, -90kg, -100kg and +100kg.

This day brought three bronze medals to the account of the Latvian judo team. In the weight category -100kg, Vladlens Jarockis, losing to the Ukrainian athlete, but then defeating his national team member A. Kamenski, won the bronze medal.

Vyacheslav Melnichenko (-100kg), losing to the Ukrainian, but then defeating his teammate D. Pankov, also won 3rd place.

Viktors Reško (+100kg) defeated national team member Jānis Strazdiņa in the first match, then lost in a match with a Romanian judoka, but in the final match he defeated the Israeli, as a result of which he won a bronze medal.

Daniels Pankovs (-100kg) ranked 5th, losing to the judoka from Ukraine and then to his teammate V. Melnichenko. Andrejs Kamenskis (-100kg), losing his fight to the representative of Ukraine and then losing to his teammate V. Jarocki, also ranked 5th.

Ivan Mihalyov (-81kg) started the fight with a loss to an Italian rival, then defeated an Israeli athlete in a consolation match. Unfortunately, the next satisfaction fight for Ivan brought a loss against a Slovenian judoka, as a result, Ivan ranked 7th.

Aleksej Zarudnev (-90kg) defeated the Estonian representative, but lost to the Israeli athlete in the quarterfinals. In the first consolation bout, Alexey celebrated a victory over a Ukrainian rival, but in the next consolation bout he lost to another Ukrainian competitor. A. Zarudnev ranked 7th.

Dmitrijs Gukovs (-81kg) lost to the representatives of Israel and Slovenia, respectively. Arturs Laufmanis (-81kg) also recognized the superiority of the Israeli judoka. Matīss Zeiļa (-81kg) also lost to an Israeli rival. Ronalds Plostnieks (-81kg), on the other hand, recognized the superiority of Kyrgyz judokas and after
the Israeli athlete also conceded to it. Leonid Greenwald lost to an Israeli competitor.

Mark Sutika (-90kg) lost to a judoka from Israel, but in the satisfaction fight he recognized the superiority of the Swedish athlete. German Grigorjevs (-90kg) lost against athletes from Estonia and Sweden, respectively. Vadims Tamkovičs (-90kg) recognized the superiority and satisfaction of the Ukrainian judoka in the fight
conceded to the Swede.

Jānis Strazdiņš (+100kg) could not defeat his team member V. Reško and then lost to athletes from Romania and Israel.

The Latvian Judo Federation (hereinafter – LDF) congratulated Antonia de Angelis and his coach for winning the gold medal, as well as bronze medalists Vladlena Jarocki, Vyacheslav Melnichenko and Viktor Reshko and their coaches. LDF expresses great gratitude to all athletes and their coaches for participating in the Cup.
