Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman has been named AHL Player of the Week.
Gausman scored the win when his team beat the Rays 3-1 in Florida on Tuesday. He allowed one hit and one walk in eight innings, and struck out 10 batters.
Sunday, in Minnesota, he shut out the Twins for six innings, having five batters on strikes. Toronto won 3-2 in 10 innings.
Gausman is 8-8 with a 2.91 GAA in his first season with the Blue Jays.
Meanwhile, Whit Merrifield will be the leadoff batter for the second time in five games with the Blue Jays on Monday in Baltimore.
Acquired from the Kansas City Royals last week, Merrifield has done very well with his new club so far. The center fielder is batting .357 (5 for 14), with three runs scored and one RBI.
