From 1 to 18 September, Lithuania will once again live to the rhythm of basketball, as the best basketball players in the country will compete for the title of winners of the Old Continent. Basketball will also dominate in Delphi. Thus, for the whole championship, the “Basket Zone” will welcome the spectators, who will complete the contents of the portal, which will deal with the most important news of the tournament.
According to the director of “Delfi video” Arturo Paknis, during the basketball festival lasting almost a month, the “Zona Basket” will be visited by well-known presenters from the world of basketball. Before each match of the Lithuanian national team, they will share their predictions and, as soon as the matches are over, they will review the results, the progress of the match and the performance of the basketball players.
Even though basketball is called Lithuania’s second religion for a reason and most fans watch games in front of TV screens, the “basketball zone” will also help you get a glimpse of what’s happening off the court. “Audiences will also see behind the scenes of the championship in the show, so even those who don’t have the opportunity to watch the competition live in the arenas will feel the spirit of the tournament,” says A. Paknys.
The Lithuanian national team will start their matches in Germany, then the “Delphi” journalists working here will present the latest events to basketball fans. They will interact with the athletes and coaches and reveal what their daily life will be like during the championship. In addition, the “Delphi” team will be interested in the mood of Lithuanian fans eager for victories and the way in which they are welcomed by the locals.
Spectators will again see the well-known tandem – sports journalist Gediminas Inciuras and one of the most famous basketball commentators Vaidas Čeponis – at the helm of the hosts of “Krepšinios zona”. True, this time they will not work together: G. Inčiūra will talk about current affairs at the “Delfi TV” studio in Vilnius, while V. Čeponis will talk about the match of the Lithuanian national team and its German opponents.

V. Čeponis, who is preparing for the European men’s basketball championship, says he will go to Germany in a good mood. “I believe the Lithuanian national team can win medals. I imagine there will be considerable interest in the European Championship in Germany, because basketball is already a popular sport in this country, ”says the commentator.
According to him, this year’s tournament is unique in that a large number of national teams of a similar level will participate. There won’t be enough first-light stars, including Luka Dončičius, Nikola Jokić, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Rudy Gobert, Domantas Sabonis, Jonas Valančiūnas, Vasilije Micicius, and a bunch of other aces. For the first time, Ignas Brazdeikis will also take part in such an important competition, with which the Lithuanians have high hopes.
Since 1994 V. Čeponis has written about the biggest basketball tournaments, including the European and World Championships and the Olympic Games. The basketball expert believes he has brought news from more than 20 leagues to fans.
“Of the European championships, the most significant was undoubtedly that of 2003, when the Lithuanians became champions for the first time after the restoration of independence, and in general they triumphed for the third time in the Old Continent. Among the saddest moments we remembered the 1995 championships, when we, with Arvydas Sabonis and Šarūnas Marčiulionis in the lead, lost painfully against Yugoslavia. Of course, a referee then helped the opponents ”, says V. Čeponis about the most memorable tournaments.
When asked how the Lithuanian national team can do in the league, the host of the “Krepšinio zone” said that this year there will be a tough battle and 7-8 teams will win medals. “I am Slovenia, France, Serbia, Lithuania, Spain, Greece, Germany, Italy. In my opinion the main favorites for gold are Slovenians, French and Serbs. The Lithuanians manage to win at least the bronze, but it won’t be easy, ”says V. Čeponis and adds that the“ Basketball Zone ”spectators will try to provide a lot of intriguing information behind the scenes of the tournament this autumn. .
