Dodgers fans make an impromptu offering for Vin Scully on the driveway to the stadium.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and their fans had one of the most emotional days in living memory this Friday. It was the team’s first game at its stadium since the death of the legendary Vin Scully, its chronicler for 67 years. Prior to the meeting between the Dodgers and the San Diego Padres, the team paid tribute to the greatest broadcaster in baseball from the United States with a posthumous ceremony.
Vin Scully passed away on August 2 at the age of 94 at his home in Hidden Hills, in the San Fernando Valley, putting all of baseball and Los Angeles in mourning.
The signs of love for the legend of the microphone appeared from outside the stadium. Fans placed countless flowers like offering just below the stadium sign that is on the main access road, whose name is Vin Scully Avenue.
Inside the stadium, where Scully’s microphone badge that was presented several years ago upon induction into the Dodgers Ring of Honor hangs in one of the stands, a cross-shaped flower arrangement appeared.
While on the field, just above the pitchers’ mound, a blue circle was painted with the word “Vin” and a microphone in memory of the man who, in a talk with La Opinion during the pandemic, had the humility that was a ” ordinary man” and in which he recalled special moments of his career, including the achievements of Fernando Valenzuela.
After the Dodgers and Padres players lined up on the diamond before the game, a moment of silence was held in memory of Scully.
Then came the big moment, when Dodgers manager Dave Roberts took the microphone. Surrounded by all the players and coaches of the team, Roberts asked Joe Davis and Orel Hershiser, the Dodgers’ TV broadcasters, to unveil a sign honoring Scully.similar to the one the chronicler showed Los Angeles fans in his last game at the stadium.
And then Roberts asked the audience to stand up and shout Scully’s most famous line: “It’s time for Dodger Baseball!” And on the count of three, that happened.
Around the stadium were many memorabilia and memorabilia related to Vin and his legacy. Outside the press box that bears his name, was placed a floral arrangement, memorable photos and the aforementioned Vin sign that reads that he would miss the fans.
Tributes to the chronicler abounded throughout the Major League stadiums, such as at Wrigley Field in Chicago, where this Friday the day Scully sang the traditional “Take me out to the ball game” was revived from the broadcast booth of the Cubs.
The Dodgers released some videos looking back at Vin Scully’s career. The images will be present the rest of the season and forever.
The Dodgers defeated the Padres 8-1.
