German tennis player Alexander Zverev, current number two in the world, will not finally play the US Open, which begins on August 29, due to the injury that occurred at Roland Garros, as confirmed on Monday by the organization of the ‘Grand Slam’.

“Alexander Zverev has dropped out of the US Open. Get well soon, Alex,” the New York tournament wrote on his official ‘Twitter’ account, in which the German was a finalist in 2020 against the Austrian Dominic Thiem and a semifinalist in 2021.

In the early hours of this Monday, the ‘Bild’ had already advanced this drop since the one from Hamburg still does not feel fully fit for the fourth ‘Grand Slam’ of the year and aims to return to the courts for the group stage of the Davis Cup Finals, which will be played in his hometown between September 13 and 18.

“If it was a normal tournament, the best of three sets, then I would say that maybe I could make it, but it is difficult to go back as a first tournament where you play the best of five,” Zverev recently commented, who had to go through the operating room after injuring his ankle during the Roland Garros semifinal against the Spanish Rafa Nadal.
