Unnecessary action by the Greek
Tsitsipas loses game and nerves
Stefanos Tsitsipas loses his nerve in the first round at the tournament in Canada. From behind, he smashes a high return straight in his opponent’s direction.
Excitement at the Canadian Open. World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas (23) loses the round of 16 against Jack Draper, the 20-year-old world No. 82 from England, after two sets.
This is certainly not how Tsitsipas imagined his adventure in North America. The Greek is already pissed off during the game, makes a lot of forehand mistakes and loses his nerve in the first when he is 1:3 behind.
He hits a smash unnecessarily and full force towards Draper. He can still turn away at the last moment, so that the ball just misses him. Tsitsipas doesn’t care that he almost shot down his opponent. He demands a challenge from the referee. But even in the repetition it becomes clear: This ball was out.
Ultimately, Tsitsipas loses the game 5: 7 and 6: 7 (4: 7). In the round of 16, Draper meets Frenchman Gaël Monfils (35, ATP 20). (mum)
