The City Council and Segorbe Basketball Club create an inclusive school

Through the signing of an agreement, the City Council will transfer the facilities so that the users of the Occupational Center, the CRIS and the Residence for the Disabled can learn and practice basketball with CB Segorbe, under the guidance of their coach and player Jordi Andreu Cavero. The objective of the club is to create a basketball team that competes with other centers in the Valencian Community, always prioritizing teaching and non-competitive practice.

With the start of the course, the users of the Alto Palancia Occupational Center, the “Almagrán” Center for Rehabilitation and Social Insertion, both owned by the municipality, as well as the Residence for the Disabled will form part of the CB Segorbe Inclusive Basketball School. During the school year and with three sessions a week, Jordi Andreu will be in charge of teaching them this sport, adapting it to their characteristics and needs.

«Thanks to the initiative of the Segorbe Basketball Club, the users of the CRIS and the Occupational Center will be able to live an unforgettable experience as well as learn intrinsic values of basketball such as camaraderie, teamwork and equal opportunities. With projects of this type, we meet the objectives of Social Services when it comes to achieving inclusion and promoting equality among Segorbinos»says Mª Carmen Climent, Mayor of Segorbe.

The Councilor for Social Services, Marisa López, highlights that it is a «Unique opportunity for the users of both centers to get to know a sport that promotes very positive values. During the past course, some trainings were already carried out with an excellent reception from all these people. As of this course, it has already been shaped and will now become an Inclusive School».
