Santana and Mora inducted into the Venezuelan Baseball Hall of Fame

Johan Santana and Melvin Mora, were inducted into the Venezuelan Baseball Hall of Fame by contemporary committee votes in the Class of 2022.

The pitcher from Merida received 81% of the ballots, while Mora obtained 75% to become the new immortals of the Creole ball.

Santana is the most successful Venezuelan pitcher in the major leagues, after winning the American League Cy Young in 2004 with 20 wins, a feat he repeated in 2006 with 19 wins.

The former major leaguer conquered the triple crown by being first in wins, strikeouts and ERA. Additionally, he pitched a no-hitter in 2012, the first to do so in New York Mets history.

In Venezuela he played for the Navegantes del Magallanes, a team with which he was crowned champion twice.

For his part, Melvin Mora is considered one of the most versatile Venezuelan players of all time. He played 11 seasons in the Major Leagues and participated in two All-Star Games (2003-2005).

The Creole left a lifetime average of .278 with 171 home runs, 754 RBI and 1,503 hits.

Mora was also part of the Navegantes del Magallanes within the LVBP, where he played for 15 seasons and won three championship titles.
