Podmol will return to the Dakar Rally, driving without assistance

“Being alone in the Dakar is a challenge and mainly an adventure that I want to try. It will be a similar adrenaline rush as somersaulting over my fence on this bike. I think I am the first to perform a real freestyle trick on the Dakar special,” said Podmol in a press release. He accompanied the announcement of the second Dakar start with a freestyle trick “Backflip Indian air” in his own garden.

Last year’s start at the Dakar made his dream come true, and he also managed to reach the finish line. Also thanks to the help of Roman Krejčí, who lent him his own bike in the last stage so that Podmol could finish the rally. Now Podmol is looking forward to his second participation. “At the end of the month, I received an e-mail from the organizers that I was accepted. At the same time, I heard from the riders that it was full. I’m glad it worked out,” the thirty-eight-year-old competitor rejoiced.

He is also looking forward to the new category. “Everyone rode like this before. It will be a big challenge because I’m not a mechanic at all. Especially the electronics on the Dakar bike are a piece of cake and I’ll have to take a good look at everything,” said Podmol.

In addition to preparing for the race, he is also awaiting the premiere of the film Adam, in which he plays the main role. “We will tour only CineStar multiplexes. Each of our performances will be complemented by theatrical elements and a discussion about the film or the Dakar,” added Podmol. The premiere will take place on Wednesday, August 17 in Prague at Anděl.
