Playa del Carmen headquarters of the Paralympic Archery National – Lights of the Century

  • Playa del Carmen will host the Third National Paralympic Archery Championship, which will take place from August 31 to September 4.

CANCÚN, Q. ROO.- Playa del Carmen will host the Third National Paralympic Archery Championship, which will be held from August 31 to September 4, within the facilities of the Poliforum Sports Unit.

Nine delegations will arrive at this contest with 29 athletes from different states of the Mexican Republic, who will compete in different modalities such as recurve bow and compound bow in the men’s and women’s branches, as well as the mixed visually impaired.

At a press conference, Hilda Martell Mitchell, president of the State Archery Association, stated that this event will qualify for the 2023 Santiago de Chile Parapan American Games, in addition to being part of the process towards the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.

One of the athletes who will represent Quintana Roo in this competition will be Omar Echeverría, from Playa, who was part of the Paralympic delegation in Tokio 2020 and is the current Parapan American champion, after winning the gold medal in 2021.

“I am happy to present this important Championship and start the Olympic cycle of Paris 2024 at home, I am training with the purpose of defending the national title and qualifying for Chile 2023. And it is very important that people perceive the needs that people have with disabilities, but mainly the courage and desire to participate in sport and the best way is with these events that enrich each one of us”, commented Echeverría Espinoza, member of the Mexican Paralympic Archery Team.
