The 5th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games continues in Konya, Turkey. Niger participates in these competitions which take place from August 9 to 18. Already, the harvest is good for our country which has already garnered two (2) medals in Taekwondo, one in Gold won by Mahamadou Maharana Amadou and one in Bronze won by Nourridine Issaka.

Thus, the national anthem of Niger once again sounded on this occasion thanks to the gold medal won by the World Champion in his category, the young Mahamadou Maharana Amadou. The young hope Nourridine Issaka who won the bronze was, a few days ago, bronze medalist at the Cadet and Junior World Taekwondo Championship, held in Sofia in Bulgaria from 27

July to August 7, 2022. Niger hopes for other medals in particular, in traditional wrestling with Issaka Issaka, in athletics, in pétanque.

The Islamic Solidarity Games are the second most popular sporting event after the Olympic Games in terms of number of participants. Scheduled for 2021, this 5th edition has been postponed due to COVID-19. It brings together nearly 6,000 athletes representing around 58 countries for a total of 483 medals planned.

Several sports disciplines are on the program for these games. These are basketball, aerobic gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, athletics, football, table tennis, sport shooting, cycling, wrestling, fencing , weightlifting, judo, karate, swimming, taekwondo, handball, kick boxing, put chi, traditional Turkish shooting, volleyball, archery, etc.

Our country participates in these competitions in several disciplines including Taekwondo, traditional wrestling, judo, petanque, tennis, athletics, etc.

This year the official slogan of these games is: “All the countries of the Islamic world together with sport”. It is through this slogan to encourage the strengthening of peace and brotherhood between countries through sport. The emblem of this 5th edition is in the form of a tulip, one of the symbols of the city of Konya. The Tulip consists of two letters ″ Elif″ and ″ Kha″, which are the letters of the word ″ Ihvan″ which means in Arabic ″Brother″. A mascot has been chosen for the Konya games. It represents the figure of the eagle on the flag of the Seljuk Empire, a symbol of power and strength.

The Islamic Solidarity Games is a multinational sports event organized by the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation. These games were created on May 6, 1985 in Riyadh under the aegis of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The first editions were held in Mecca in 2005 and in Palembang in 2013. The last edition was held in Baku Azerbaijan from May 12 to 22, 2017.

It should be noted that Cameroon has been selected to host the 6th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games scheduled for 2025.
