ÖFB-Cup: Salzburg manages promotion with difficulty

Salzburg was spared an embarrassment in front of 3,900 spectators in Ried, but Gurten fought back bravely. Salzburg missed an early goal as Amar Dedic failed at Gurten goalie Felix Wimmer (15′) and the crossbar (25′). In addition, Maximilian Wöber was unlucky to volley after a Seiwald free-kick that hit the pole (44′).

Luckily, the favorite’s leading goal fell before the break. Florian Schütz (45.+1) headed a wide Wöber shot over Wimmer into his own net when trying to return it. After the restart, after missed chances by Luka Sucic (57th) and Junior Adamu (64th), the young Dijon Kameri (64th) hit the corner with a well-placed shot from 20 meters. Adamu (84th) provided the final point from close range.

Dream goal by Kameri to make it 2-0 (65th minute)

Salzburg makes the preliminary decision.

“We certainly had more plans, especially to get into the game better, but we deserved to win over 90 minutes. It was a work win,” said Salzburg captain Andreas Ulmer in an ORF TV interview.

Admira succeeds in “revenge” against Altach

Second division FC Flyeralarm Admira cleared the Altach hurdle impressively. The relegated team didn’t give the Bundesliga team a chance with a 3-0 (3-0) win and returned the favor at least a little for going into the 2nd division. Last season, the Lower Austrians only took over the red lantern from Altach on the last day of the game.

Coach Miroslav Klose’s team gave a disastrous picture in the first half and was already behind after around 15 minutes: Martin Rasner scored from 18 meters to take the lead (17′). Mamina Badji initially missed the chance to make it 2-0, but increased it a little later after a cross into the corner (22nd). Filip Ristanic made the preliminary decision before the break (41st).

Admira clearly prevails against Altach

In the cup duel on Tuesday, the current second division team managed to take revenge on the Vorarlberg team. Admira clearly prevailed 3-0 in the southern part of the city.

For the tail light in the upper house it was the fifth defeat in the eighth competitive game. Most recently, Klose had therefore vehemently called for reinforcements, the transfer window closes on Wednesday. The Admira with coach Roberto Pätzold is in third place in the 2nd division and is among the last 16 in the cup for the first time since the 2016/17 season.

Lustenau fails at the sports club

Austria Lustenau, the second Bundesliga team from the Ländle, who is currently fourth in the table, also surprisingly lost 0: 2 (0: 2) to regional league club Wiener Sport-Club. Match winner was Ivan Andrejevic with an early brace (8th, 12th) for fifth in the Regionalliga Ost.

In the Styrian second division duel, GAK won 2-1 (0-0) at SV Lafnitz, FAC Vienna retained the upper hand 2-1 after extra time in Kapfenberg, and in the Lower Austria derby Horn eliminated St. Pölten 3-1.
