Norrie defeats Auger-Aliassime and goes to the final of the Los Cabos Open

A slight surprise awaited in the final stages of the Los Cabos Open. Although in a game of great players anyone can win, Cameron Norrie chose a good place to break his losing streak against Félix Auger-Aliassime by eliminating him in the semifinals.

The Briton’s win was a testament to the award for consistency, not just in this match, but throughout the week. Norrie was on the edge in a couple of games but managed to pull out the winpartly thanks to the Canadian’s unforced errors.

Cameron took advantage of the second break chance he had in the first set to swing the set in his favor. With the serve he was close to perfection, as he did not even open the door for Felix so that the latter had a chance to even the actions.

After winning the first set 6-4, Norrie’s level dropped a bit and allowed the Canadian to break for the first time. Felix relinquished the lead immediately afterwards but held off on his serve after losing it for the second time that night.

Auger-Aliassime and Norrie engaged in a battle of advantages and break points in favor of the Canadian. Finally, Felix achieved his second break of the match and then sealed the set with his serve. After a dominant first semifinal, Los Cabos received the drama that a third set always delivers.

Auger-Aliassime was the first to suffer another disconnection. The emotional blow of winning the second set was not enough to stay on that line and Cameron managed to get ahead in the final. However, closing the game was not going to be easy for the British.

With 5-3 in favor, Norrie faced two break points that Félix wasted with unforced errors. On his second chance to seal the victory, Cameron played a backhand crosscourt, Felix tried a forehand down the line but the ball went wide.

Cameron Norrie reached the final in Los Cabos with partials of 6-4, 3-6 and 6-3. He will have the opportunity to defend his crown, but in front of him he will have the number one in the world. The only time they met, victory was for the Russian 6-3, 6-1 in the second round of the Shanghai Masters 1000.
