NBA star Dennis Schröder leads the German national basketball team as captain to the home European championship.
As the DBB announced on Wednesday, national coach Gordon Herbert appointed his star player and playmaker as the successor to Robin Benzing, who was not nominated for the European Championship. Schröder’s deputy becomes center Johannes Voigtmann.
Schröder’s first appearance as DBB captain will follow on Friday at 8:30 p.m. in the Supercup in Hamburg against the Czech Republic, depending on the outcome, it will also be against Italy or Serbia on Saturday.
The Germans will then travel to Sweden for the World Cup qualifiers on August 25th, before the dress rehearsal for the European Championships in Munich on August 28th against European champions Slovenia. The Herbert team meets France at the start of the European Championships on September 1st in Cologne.
