A year after the debacle of Vitesse Arnhem, Sporting has not missed its return to the European scene. Faced with the Estonian Tom Thumb of Paide Linnameeskond, winner of the Cup and current fourth in the championship, the Mauves provided the essentials by winning easily (0-2) thanks to goals from Refaelov, then Fabio Silva. The return match next Thursday promises to be a mere formality. As a reminder, the men of Felice Mazzu will face, in the event of qualification, the Young Boys of Bern or the Finns of Kups Kuopio during the play-offs.
