Mexican badminton secures five medals

THE Mexicans Lino Muñoz, Job Castillo, Haramara Gaitán, Sabrina Solís and Mariana Ugalde, secured five medals for Mexico and will compete this weekend for the gold at the Argentine International Badminton, based in Neuquen. A satisfactory day had for the Mexicans who started the points accumulation tour to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, a process that began in May 2015 and will conclude in the same month of the coming year. Lino Muñoz scored two wins, first against Canadian Martin Giuffre 23-13, 17-21 and 21-12 and then beat Jamaican Gareth Henry 21-14 and 21-15; he will fight the final against the American Shu Howard. Haramara Gaitán fought her match against the Peruvian Daniela Macías (21-17, 18-21 and 21-16) and will seek gold tomorrow against the Brazilian Lohaynny Vicente. In doubles, both branches, the last instance was reached. Job Castillo and Lino Muñoz beat Dominicans William Cabrera and Nelson Javier (22-20 and 21-15). On Saturday they will seek the top of the podium against the Argentines Javier de Paepe and Martín Trejo. While Haramara Gaitán will do the same with Sabrina Solís because in a loose graphic they advanced “bye” and their opponents did not appear in the game to dispute the advance for gold. They will wait for rivals for the final. Finally, in mixed doubles, Mariana Ugalde and the American Bjorn Seguín, who already have the bronze secured, will try to reach the last instance with the match they hold against the Brazilians Lohaynny Vicente and Alex Yuwan Tjong.
