Mason Toye: A missed chance that costs a lot

The opportunity missed by CF Montreal forward Mason Toye on Saturday during the match against New York City could well have allowed the Montrealers to save themselves with victory.

Former Impact captain Patrice Bernier and CF Montreal game analyst Vincent Destouches discussed this action and the last game in general.

“It must be a goal! exclaimed Bernier.

“He is in a pass from an attacker who lacks confidence, explained Vincent Destouches. I think his two goals in Seattle were kind of beginner’s luck in a way. »

“He asks himself questions, it’s been a few games that we see that he is not super confident. And there, this missed opportunity is the worst thing that could happen to him. »

Montreal should have won

“If there’s a team that deserves to win, it’s definitely CF Montreal. It was a test to see what they are worth and they passed it. They are able to compete with NYC and the best clubs in the league,” Destouches confessed.

His colleague Patrice Bernier is totally in agreement with his remarks.

“It’s a superb performance from CF Montreal. The last time New York City was cleared was May 7. It happened only three times before Saturday’s game that they failed to score in a game. One of those was against the first in the East, the Philadelphia Union. »

The other two times were in the first two games of the season, while still in the CONCACAF Champions League. And needless to say, all MLS teams that have qualified for the Champions League have had a slow start to the season.

They even had zero shots on target, despite having the best shooting average per game in the league.

“It’s not just defensively that they were fair, allowed himself to add Destouches. They didn’t just block or prevent players from shooting, they imposed themselves on the opponent. They stood up to the best in MLS. »
