Kevin Cordón expresses his feelings about the possible sanction of Guatemalan sports

Visibly affected by the current situation of the athletes, Kevin Cordón expressed his feelings about the consequences that Guatemalan sport could receive.

After the press conference of the national athletes, in which they established their position on the subject of the provisional suspension of the statutes of the Guatemalan Olympic Committee (COG) by the Constitutional Court (CC), Kevin Cordón was touched after the decision that could lead to a suspension for the federated sport of Guatemala and could leave national athletes out of the competitions of the Olympic cycle.

For Cordón, who commented that in Latin America and especially Guatemala it is a “luxury to play sports”, he applauded the courage of his companions at the table for deciding to hold the press conference open to the press, since he hopes that the resolution will be as soon as possible and that it be in a positive way for the athletes, who have their future in the air and whose suspension would affect everything from high performance to the development phases of the sport.

With a serious face and visibly affected by the possible future of the sport in Guatemala, Cordón only smiled at one point in the media’s queries towards him, and that was when he was asked about his participation in the next Badminton World Cup to be held in Japan. from August 21 to 28.

How will a possible IOC suspension affect Guatemalan sport?

“I am going to be as brief and direct as possible, it is a very difficult situation. It affects high-performance sport and the development of athletes.”

“Sport is a joy, but now it is a legal situation. I hope this problem will be solved soon. We live in a country where it is a luxury to practice it, we go little by little. I sincerely hope that this sad situation will be resolved.”

“Playing sports is a luxury because in our country there are other priorities, there is no good health or education system, in itself we go against the current. Anything that comes along and is negative will affect us. We must accept our reality against the country, anything positive helps us”.

Represent your country, the dream of every child…

“We are not politicians; We don’t know about laws. We know how to do our sport and what a child and a person wants most is to represent their country”.

How do you see the athletes’ decision to raise their voices?

“Right now there is a fight; there is something ugly in sports, and the people who are asking the least are the athletes, it’s the truth. Right now the whole problem affects athletes and it’s good that my colleagues have taken this initiative, that no matter what happens, those who are affected are those who play sports”.

“Support the athlete, I don’t know anything about laws or this problem, what I would love is for the people who are fighting for this better to unite and give facilities to Guatemalans, we are going against the tide compared to other developed countries.”

Does this possible sanction affect you for your next participation in the Badminton World Cup?

“You are a professional and you know how to divide your things, what is professional and training. We are going to the World Cup. What happens is that there are always the ‘dimes and diretes’, and although one wants to ‘play crazy’, that affects. If the mental issue is not right, you will not be able to perform well in your sport and in the competition”

“On Wednesday the 17th he traveled to the World Cup, the tournament will be in Tokyo, we must leave earlier for scheduling reasons, hopefully I will be in the gym where the Olympic Games were and what better than now there will be July, the tournament starts on the 22nd of this month” .
