Kayakers and canoeists competed in the Ventspils championship

The Ventspils kayaking and canoeing championship was held at the “Dampeļi” rowing base, in which rowers from Talsi, Broceni, Jelgava participated, as well as Ukrainian canoeist Danylo Chamlai, who held a training camp in Ventspils to prepare for the Olympic Hopes regatta.

The competition was held in five age groups – 1000 m, 2000 m, 3000 m and sprint distance 200 m.

Unfortunately, the weather caused an unpleasant surprise, and the athletes also had to fight against the strong wind and big waves.

Žanis Putniņš, Emīls Zamuelis, Kārlis Kantsons, Karīna Treigūte, Gustavs Tīrmanis, Daniels Zamuelis, Krišs Lasmanis and Daniels Siders became Ventspils champions, winning both distances, in their age groups and boat classes. Silver medals were won by Sofija Justele, Aleksejs Masaitis and Gleb Vasilijevs. Bronze medals Ernests Samorukovs, Samuel Siders, Katrina Samorukova, Vitaly Kuleshov, Nikola Bertane, Matis Bertulsons and Artemys Rzechickis.

The next most important starts for our best rowers will be the world championship for juniors, which will take place this year. September 1 – 4 in Szeged, Hungary, where Daniel Siders will compete in the single 1000m and 5000m canoe distances.

this year On September 8-11, the “Olympic Hopes” kayaking and canoeing competitions will be held in Bratislava, Slovakia. Participants between the ages of 15 and 17 will compete in the competition and it can be considered an unofficial world championship for rowers of young age. Daniels Siders, Aleksejs Masaitis, Gustavs Tirmanis and Daniels Zamuelis won the right to start in this competition.
