Juve, the Stadium wedged between modernity and tradition: but there is a ‘fan problem’

Modernity that embraces tradition, to quote – or almost – the Juventus anthem. But it is a rigid, almost obligatory hug, not one that feels and let go of emotions. A duplicity that was seen inside the Allianz Stadium on the occasion of the bianconeri’s first season against Sassuolo.

On the one hand, the show set up by the company. The tour in the United States had multiple meanings. Among the many, the opportunity to take a close look at the stars and stripes way of experiencing football and sport, the entertainment set up in the facilities. Something that was seen on Monday evening: the flames on the sidelines while Thunderstruck of AC / DC, the cheerleaders with the Juventus pom poms, resounds from the speakers; incontrovertible signs of the direction in which you want to go, the entirety of the brand.

On the other hand, the return of the bulwark “against modern football”, the presence of some Juventus ultras groups – with different names and symbols due to the Daspo -in Curva Sud. A muted return, the cheering was felt at times and was certainly not as enthralling as that of a few seasons ago, but the atmosphere created in some phases is certainly different from what we saw last season. It should also be emphasized that the much-vaunted “return of the South Curve” is an inflation of reality. One group has officially announced its return – to the second ring of the South -, others have reappeared on the balustrade, downstairs, with greater coldness and less conviction.

The general impression, at the first of the championship, is that the hybridization between modernity and tradition is not entirely successful, for the moment, leaving the Stadium stuck in a stalemate. To make itself heard, in a rather noisy and almost surprising way, the “bourgeois” part of the cheering that with its whistles, before the svolta cooling breakhas expressed all the disappointment for what was seen in the field.

In short, the return of organized support has changed something but has not marked a turning point. The times of the impregnable basin, the “bedlam” repeatedly called by Antonio Conte, are still far away. And for the team this is a problem. Yes, because in moments of difficulty the whistles can make you sink, the support inflates the muscles, empties the lactic acid, loads the mind and allows you to get on turnovers, to win tackles, to do something more than your opponents.

It was the first, there will be time for everyone to “oil the mechanisms”. A good part of Juventus’ season also passes through here.
