Jürgen Klopp: “Luis Díaz can play better than today”

Liverpool started the Premier League with a draw to two goals away against Fulham in London. It was not the best presentation of the Reds and they could barely rescue the point with goals from Darwin Núñez (63′) and Mohamed Salah (79′). Both times they were below the marker.

At the post-match press conference, Jürgen Klopp affirmed that his team did not play as expected, but I praise the work and forcefulness of Fulham. He also spoke about Luis Díaz, who was on the pitch for 76 minutes with two clear scoring options, one in each half. He believes that he could not make much of a difference due to the rival’s approach.

“Lucho is a great player, a fantastic player, today he had a great opportunity. For offensive players, on a day like this, it’s not easy because the rival defends massively. We didn’t play well enough…” Klopp commented.

The coach continued with his explanation about Díaz’s performance and expressed that he expects more from him in the next gameslike Darwin Núñez and the Brazilians.

“When we were close, you immediately saw how good Lucho is, one on one, a shot at the post, I don’t know exactly, but it came close. Yes, he is a brilliant player, but he can play better than today, like all South Americans”, pointed out the DT.

Liverpool will play again next Monday, August 15, against Crystal Palace at Anfield. In addition to not adding the three points in London, the bad news was the muscular discomfort that Thiago Alcántará felt and that forced him to be substituted in the second half.
