Jérôme Guery crowns himself vice world champion jumping | equestrian sport

In Herning (Denmark), Jérôme Guery has won silver at the World Equestrian Games. Our compatriot remained clear in the 2 final rounds in the jumping and only had to tolerate the Swede Henrik von Eckermann.

Stylish and clear, that’s how Jérôme Guery completed his two final rounds today with his 16-year-old stallion Quel Homme de Hus.

Guery came in 3rd from the qualifiers. In the final rounds he had to hope that his 2 Swedish competitors Henrik von Eckermann and Jens Fredricson collected penalty points.

Fredricson made a mistake, Von Eckermann did not. That means that Guery is going to get a silver medal. The world title is for the Swede Von Eckermann.

If anyone has truly deserved this silver medal, it’s Quel Homme. He is so reliable and competitive.

Jérôme Guery praises his stallion

“I estimate this silver medal at a World Cup just a bit higher than the bronze with the team at the Games in Tokyo,” Guery said.

“As a boy I dreamed of Olympics and world championships. Now I can say that with hard work you can make all your dreams come true.”

“And I would like to add: if anyone has really earned this silver medal, it is Quel Homme. He is so reliable and competitive that I am especially happy for him that we managed to take silver at the World Cup today.”

Jérôme Guery is only the 3rd Belgian to reach the individual World Cup podium. Jos Lansink won the world title in 2006 in Aachen with Cavalor Cumano, 4 years later Philippe Le Jeune did it for him in the US with Vigo d’Arsouilles.

Philippaerts is 2e Belg in de top 10

With Nicola Philippaerts a 2nd Belgian was in the final rounds.

Philippaerts had bad luck in qualifying, when he made a mistake at the last hurdle.

In the last final round, Philippaerts knocked off another beam with his 12-year-old Belgian Warmblood Horse (BWP) Katanga van het Dingeshof. Good for 8th place.
