Ivanisevic is full of praise for Sinner

Goran Ivanisevic Enjoy the last traces of a well-deserved vacation. Under normal circumstances, the Croatian would be immersed in an important block of preparation for the next US Open 2022, already as head coach of Novak Djokovicbut the Serbian is doing physical and tennis work in Montenegro… without much chance, it seems, of being able to go to Flushing Meadows. Or so transmits, at least, a Goran who remains in the same line as past statements: the one from Belgrade can only cling to a straw to play the last Grand Slam of the year, and it does not seem like a nail on which to put too many expectations .

This was made clear in his last interview in La Repubblica, where Goran reiterated that everything depends on the United States Governmentnot much for the work of changing the conditions of entry to the country for foreigners unvaccinated. That, of course, raises some blisters in the Balkan, who showed his discomfort with a discriminatory rule. “Novak is going to do everything possible, perhaps with a special visa, but there are only two weeks to go. Personally, I have no hope. I don’t think Biden will change the rules before the tournament starts. And it seems silly to me: if you are vaccinated but you are positive you can enter the United States, but they ban you if you are not vaccinated and you are negative. There is too much politics in the world of sport.”affirmed a really blunt Ivanisevic.

Difficult to predict what Djokovic’s closest future will be, but until his chapter is resolved, Goran has also kept an eye on recent tournaments around the globe. Impossible to detach yourself, then, from that event whose Central Track bears his name: the ATP Umag 2022 left as brand new champion Jannik Sinner (almost executioner of Nole at Wimbledon, by the way), and the Croatian spoke of him, who was full of praise for tennis and the future of San Candido. “I’ve been a huge fan of Sinner, ever since I was a kid. He’s humble, he’s very talented and he’s growing by leaps and bounds. He’s the future of tennis and will be able to win any Grand Slam. We saw him against Nole in London, he played superbly in the first two sets but made the mistake of conceding and going back down the court in the third set. You can’t take a break from Novak, you have to kill him while you can.”Goran reflected on a match that, who knows, could be a turning point in his career.

JANNIK, WITH MORE FUTURE THAN BERRETTINI

Ivanisevic did not cut himself when drawing comparisons. Asked about the most immediate future of Italian tennis, the Croatian made clear his confidence in Jannik, even placing him above Matteo Berrettini. “Jannik is improving his serve a lot, even though he still doesn’t position his legs in the right way, in my opinion. Nowadays, Berrettini serves better than him, but as a tennis fan I prefer Jannik, Without a doubt. I like his tennis better. Matteo is great, he has a great serve, his slice backhand is effective, but in my opinion Sinner will be even better. He always has an answer and has an outstanding forehand and backhand from the back of the court. If he manages to get more to the net and improve his volleys, he will enter the elite. He lacked that against Djokovic.”
